History: Palestine is a small country in the middle East beside Egypt. Palestine has struggled to maintain its idenity and freedom as it has been under Egyptian, Turkish, Roman, English and Isreali rule for many years. It has been under Isreali occupation for more than 60 years.
Geography: Gaza Strip- Palestine- faces the Mediteranian Sea ( or what is often reffered to as Bahar el- Abyad in Arabic). Palestine consists of lush terrians, large hills, rocky mountains, lakes, rivers, a dessert, and is home and birth place to the main religions of Islam, Christianity and Judaisim.
Agriculture: Our main agriculture includes olives, citrus fruits, grapes, figs, apples, various common vegetables, eggplants and zuchini. Near the coastal area, fishery is popular, and all kinds of live stock are kept.
Foods: Many of our traditional foods include the famous Falafel, hummus, zaater pies, fool, da’eh, makloobeh, kishik, mjaderah, msakhan and much much more! the flavors and spices used are exquisite and each city is proud of the
Clothing and language: Our original language is Arabic, but many dialects are spoken depending on the area lived in. The traditional clothing for women is Toob Falahy or Farmers dress which like an abiyah with beautiful detailed embroidered threads. Each city or area has a certain style in the emroidery, or the style or type of fabrics used. Men wear blazers, pants, kufi’s (or kufiya’s) and hatta’s, with plain and simple embroidery.
Education: Unfortunatly, while education is cherished and important, many war related issues have caused many schools to close down or students to loose interest in learning due to fear to their lives beteen their daily long commute to and from school. Yet, all students are all hard workers and aim to overcome these obstacles and achieve their dreams. Some well-known universities include Beir- Zeit University and Beit Lahem Universities near Al- Dafah.
Today: Besides our bloodied war, loss and poverty, Palestine is a golden beauty. From its crashing white waves, towering mountains, lush greenery, delicous flavors, hopeful children, and to it’s unwavering tradition and heritage. Palestine is my home, your home, and our home togethor, and may peace grow and thrive again and rebuild it’s legendary reputation of strength in religion, education and trade.
